Detail | A Japanese delegation consisting of 10 members visited Taiwan from Aug. 22 (Mon.) to 28 (Sun.), 2011 to attend the 2011 Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Conference on Sabo. This was at the invitation of the Taiwan Disaster Prevention Society and the Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Society. Delegation members also participated in a study tour and actively exchanged views with Taiwanese participants.
The conference was hosted by the Agricultural Department of the New Taipei city government and the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau, Council of Agriculture of the Taiwanese government. It was co-sponsored by the Taiwan Disaster Prevention Society and the Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Society for the first time. Japanese participants made five presentations and Taiwanese participants three presentations on their research and investigation results, followed by a general discussion by both participants. Delegation members visited the Central Geological Survey of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and were briefed on a slope failure that occurred due to heavy rain when Typhoon Megi hit the area in October 2010. Then, they went to the slope failure site located along the Suhua Highway No. 9 (between Suao and Dongao northern section). They also visited the Hualien Branch of the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau and went to see various facilities under the management of the branch office. They saw an environmental sabo facility (channel works) built in the Baibao river, and a debris flow control facility and a debris flow early warning system set up in the Fongyikeng area. |
