Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Conference on Sabo   – Participation in INTERPRAEVENT 2023 –

April 16-22, 2023

Coinciding with the “INTERPRAEVENT 2023 International Symposium” (INTERPRAEVENT 2023), which was held in Taichung, Taiwan, from April 17 to 21, face-to-face exchanges with Taiwan resumed after a period of approximately three years and four months, and the 2023 Taiwan-Japan Research Conference on Sabo was held under the auspices of CSWCS (Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Society) and TDPS (Taiwan Disaster Prevention Society). Attending from Japan was a delegation (headed by Hiroyuki Ohno, President of International Sabo Association and President of Japan Sabo Association) consisting of 29 members, including employees of MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism).

At the symposium held on April 17 and 18, President Ohno and two others delivered special topic speeches. There were also keynote speeches, country reports, oral presentations on 36 titles, and poster lists on 78 titles.

At the administrative officer meeting on Sabo held in the morning of April 19, four topics were offered from Japan and Taiwan, respectively, and a comprehensive discussion was held.

During the INTERPRAEVENT field trips organized from April 19 to 21, participants observed the dammed-lake failure experiment, village regeneration initiatives in agricultural regions, status of development of mountain streams with consideration for the ecosystem and natural environment, and companies developing environmental conservation construction products.
