The 2025 Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Conference on Sabo

The 2025 Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Conference on Sabo was held in Taiwan(Taipei City,Hualien County)  from April 20 (Sun.) to 26 (Sat.) by the Chinese Soil and Water Conservation Society and the Taiwan Disaster Prevention Society etc., fifteen members of the Japanese delegation (led by Hiroyuki Ohno, President of the International Sabo Association, and President of Japan Sabo Association), including officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association.
Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Meeting was held at Taipei Branch, Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation, MOA on April 21, 2025, 3 topics were offered from both sides respectively, and common issues of both sides were discussed. During the general discussion, there was a lively exchange of opinions that went over time.
From April 22 to 24, we visited the field frip of a large-scale sediment   movement caused by the Hualien earthquake that occurred last April and subsequent typhoons in Hualien County, as well as an environmental conservation project that takes the ecosystem into consideration. Various discussions and exchanges of opinions took place at the sites.
At  the Technical Meeting”the Taiwan-Japan Sabo Administrators Meeting” held at the Ministry of Agriculture (Taipei) on April 25, two topics were presented by the Japanese and Taiwanese sides respectively, and a general discussion was held.
Prior to the conference, the Ministry of Agriculture awarded the “Second Class Agricultural Expert Award” to Dr. Masao Okamoto, Vice President of Japan Association, in recognition of his many years of achievements in erosion control technology exchange between Taiwan and Japan. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture presented the “Special Contribution Award” to Dr. Sohei Abe, former Director of the Public Service Department of the Association, from the Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation, Department of the Ministry of Agriculture. We would like to express our sincere congratulations and respect to both of them for their longtime achievements.
In addition to meetings and field trip, we had many opportunities to experience Taiwanese culture and customs, and we had a very fruitful week.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the people in Taiwan who took the time out of their busy schedules to host the survey team, and we would also like to thank the members of the team who willingly joined the survey team and the related organizations for their understanding and cooperation regarding the overseas dispatch of our staff.
