Dear ISN Members,
My name is Yoshiharu Ishikawa, who took over as president of the International Sabo Association from my predecessor Takahisa Mizuyama (Professor Emeritus of Kyoto University) from the end of June 2023. To briefly introduce myself, I worked for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Japan from 1975 to 1996, then at Kyoto Prefectural University (1996~2003) and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (2003~2017). I am the director of the Sabo Library (2019~).
In terms of overseas relations, I served as an Director (2012~2016) and an Vice President (2016~2020) of INTERPRAEVENT.
Partly due to the effects of global warming, many sediment-related disasters have occurred around the world recently, and the damage has also intensified. Furthermore, as disasters become more complex and widespread, international information and human exchange are essential to mitigate the disasters. Since its establishment in 2004, the International Sabo Association has been engaged in projects to support erosion and sediment runoff control (Sabo) that is being developed around the world.
Due to the restrictions on activities due to the corona disaster for about three years, we had no choice but to bias towards online meetings and online services, but recently face-to-face exchanges have resumed.
In the future, we will make further efforts to support international erosion and sediment runoff control exchanges by taking advantage of both face-to-face and online exchanges. Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Sincerely yours,
Yoshiharu Ishikawa
Board Chairman, International Sabo Association
