The 2014 Taiwan-Japan Joint Research Conference on Sabo was held in Taiwan on September 21 through September 27, 2014. Nine members, including officials of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, attended the conference as a study team from Japan.
At the technical session on September 23, Japanese and Taiwanese participants each gave three presentations on sabo-related surveys and research, followed by a general discussion by all participants. On September 25, a sabo officials' conference was held, where Japanese and Taiwanese participants each gave presentations on three topics, followed by a general discussion.
As a field trip, conference participants visited Mt. Jiu Fen Er, an area severely damaged by a 1999 earthquake, to see structures constructed for disaster prevention. They also visited the research forest of the National Chung Hsing University to see a landslide dam bursting experiment. They had active discussions and exchanges of opinions at both sites.
