As a part of international exchange activities of Japan Sabo Association, "Overseas Seminar and On-Site Visit for Erosion Control" was held in Austria. During the period from October 18 to October 24, participants from various fields of erosion control took part in this event accompanied by Dr. Masanobu Kimura (Professor, Gifu University).

On October 19, the group visited a large-scale landslide site in Gmunden in the east of Salzburg after the seminar. On 20th, an example of erosion control in Bramberg (southeast of Salzburg) was observed on the way to Innsbruck. On 21st, a countermeasure against avalanche in Galtür (west of Innsbruck) and the historic erosion control facility in Langenfeld were visited. On 22nd, a seminar was held in Innsbruck.

In the seminar comprised of two sessions, Mr. Yoichi Miki (Division Manager, Sabo Frontier Foundation), Mr. Yuji Yasuda (Deputy Section Manager, SABO Technical Center) and Mr. Koji Kamee (Standing Director, Japan SABO Association) made presentations on the history of erosion control in Japan as well as the erosion control countermeasures from structual and non-structual standpoints. From Austrian side, Mr. Gasperl (Director General, Erosion Control Bureau in Oberösterreich), Mr. Sauermoser (Director General, Erosion Control Bureau in Tyrol) and Mr. Rammer (Research Institute for Forestry) made presentations on the history of erosion control in Austria and the recent efforts for erosion control in this country.
