This JICA Group Training Course started in 1989 as a commitment by the Government of Japan for the International Decade of Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR, 1990-1999), to support and strengthen the level of disaster prevention in developing countries, vulnerable to volcanic/sediment disasters.
Since then, until 2007, JICA have received 160 participants from 24 countries, and have greatly contributed to the development of human resources engaged in volcanic observation and/or sabo works.
